Part of a series of works created in 1937/38, many of which are included in the Sutherland sketchbooks in the Tate Gallery. In particular, sketchbook 2 includes preliminary pencil drawings of the same landscape. Inscribed verso 'LST6' which is similar to other annotations on sketches by Sutherland.
