John Piper (1903–1992)
The tiles were made in collaboration with the Tate Gallery for John Piper's 1983 retrospective exhibition. Making them in 1982 was full of problems, with the tiles constantly cracking in the firing, so production was stopped, which makes them quite rare.
To find them in good condition is rarer still. This pair is in excellent condition, with the firing marks to the reverse and the Fulham Pottery stamp indentation.
